The Effect of Using Lego in the Teaching of the Simple Machiınes Subject in 7th grade on Student Academic Success and Science Attitudes
Öz
The study's goal is to teach secondary school seventh-grade students simple machines using Lego education sets and to observe how these exercises affect students' academic achievement and attitudes toward science. A mixed research design was used in the study, which combined quantitative and qualitative methods. During the study, students were asked to design simple machines using the Lego® Simple Machines Set in order to facilitate learning. In total, the exercise took 20 hours to complete in two stages. In the second stage of the exercise, the "Carousel" activity for teaching the subject of gears, the "Go-Kart" activity for teaching the subject of axis in peritrochio, the "Catapult" activity for teaching the subject of levers, and the "Crazy Grounds" activity for teaching the subject of pulleys, were applied. The "Simple Machines Academic Achievement Test" was used to measure students' success levels on simple machines, the "Science and Technology Attitude Scale" was applied to measure students' attitudes towards science and technology, and a semi-structured interview form was utilized to determine students' opinions and suggestions about the activities in the research. The SPSS was used to analyze the data gathered from the research. Based on the findings of the study, LEGO training sets improved students' academic performance and attitudes toward science. Another finding of this study is that students expressed positive opinions about the exercises conducted through the Lego® Simple Machines, for the subject of simple machines.
